Eeerrrr… is there anybody out there?
Heheheheh!! OK, I know there’s life out there in the big bad world.
Right, let’s start off this website.
First, thanks for coming by to have a look.
There’s not very much to look at the moment because it’s a brand new website with the barest of anything.
I made a conscious decision to put out a plain boring site after some discussions with a friend (Hi, Mercy!!).
There was a lot of talk about responsive sites, HTML5, CSS3 and the “wow” factor which could inhabit my website.
My view was that there are at least two types of “wow”.
There is technical stuff which makes us go “Wow!” at the cleverness, the thought, the commitment, etc which goes in creating whatever it was that make us go “Wow”.
Then, there is the marketing hype “Wow” which is simply all noise and pretty pictures to entice us to believe the unbelievable.
I am not much for the marketing “Wow” which I consider deceptive and sometimes unconscionable. In many cases, the marketing “Wow” is designed to part fools from their money.
So, I decided to leave the marketing “Wow” to people who do understand the psychology of the consumer and to people who have that artistic flair with colours and images and sound.
Me? I’ll just start this website from it’s boring ugly beginnings and when the time comes to add the marketing “Wow”, I’ll add the marketing “Wow”.
In the mean time, I’ll just keep myself busy with the technical aspects of the website and build the bits which I believe my website should have (whatever those bits maybe).
Is there any technical “Wow” factor here in my website?
Hm, that’s not easy to answer.
What is “wow” to me is probably dead boring to somebody else (g’day Marcus, how yer goin’, mate?).
Rather than go thru all the painful boring technical details here, I have decided that I will write a separate article on the technical aspects of this website and what was done to get it to this stage.
So, why do I want to publish what is obviously an incomplete website?
Don’t I know that it will affect my Goggle ranking, skew the analytics and shock horror, it is probably not even SEO’d 🙂
The rationale for publishing this site was primarily because it was simply taking me too long to put something “out there”.
I mean, do you really care if the font-stroke color is #333 or #AAA – well, you do but you have no idea you do.
I was simply taking too long to hunt down the right section in the CSS, testing a color, refreshing, then changing to a lighter shade because I thought the contrast was not good enough, then changing to a darker shade, refreshing and then … ad nauseum.
No idea what I am rambling on about?
That’s OK because it’s boring, right?
It is boring stuff like that which was taking me way too long and I thought that if I waited until I got everything just perfect, i.e. the technical “wow” and the marketing hype “wow”, this website would never see the light of day (yeah, I do some of my best work at night *chortle*chortle*).
So, I made the decision to get the website to a stage which I felt contained the minimum elements a website should have to be considered a website, chucked in some bits like a hit counter, a search function (yeah, you might want to search for this post one day), etc etc, and make some changes to colours and contrast, and just go live.
Now that I am live online, I will continue to share some of my journey in making this website a bit nicer (whatever “nicer” means to you).
Hopefully, this website can be fun for everybody although I must forewarn you that I am an extremely boring person 🙂
See? I told you I am not a marketing person cos if I was a marketing person, I’d told you how excited I am about the launch of this fabulous fun-fun-fun website which will look after your kittens and make you all warm and mushy inside.
